This walk begins at Marcadau - Wallon refuge (1865 m) heading northeast on a path leaving the hermitage to the left and crossing a small forest. We head up a well-trodden path towards Cambalès lakes which are to our right and left as we make progress westwards. The route passes beneath the crest closing off the valley, following it round to the south over an rough rock field before crowning Col de Cambalès (2706 m).
On the other side the descent follows an evident zigzagging path leading to a boulder field where the route is not so obvious. After crossing this field the path is once again evident and drops down to a pass where there is a huge boulder. The route then bears southeast and loses height to join the path, visible from lower down, which comes from the nearby Peyre Sant Martin pass (crossing with routes 14 and 15). Taking this path to the left we will reach the pass in just a few minutes.
From the pass we are able to see Campo Plano plateau to where we descend on a good path. The route then crosses a wide plain, without any clear path, and heads towards the south bank of Ibon de Campo Plano lake (2150 m) (crossing with route 10). This stretch crosses several streams and can become waterlogged. Next to the lake there is a signpost indicating the way to Respomuso. This path describes an obvious route towards the west and passes by a shepherds hut and the remains of an unfinished dam, bordering round the north side of Ibón deras Ranas, and finally, after boxing round the back of the building reaches Respomuso refuge (2200 m).
