Description

The walk starts at Casa de Piedra refuge (1636 m) heading off towards Casa del Reloj at the eastern end of the Spa. Behind this building the markings for the GR 11 long distance footpath are visible indicating the route up to Ara valley. A wide path through the forest starts to zigzag and, in spite of the constant climb, we gain height fairly easily. At 1985 m altitude on the apex of one of the zigzags there is a less defined path to the left leading to Ibons dero Serrato. We should ignore this path and head off on a diagonal path leading to a new stretch of steep climb to reach Ibón de Brazato (2380 m) which we border round to the north. A new steep climb leads to the plateau and Ibón Perforau and Ibons Altos de Brazato. We border round the basin to the right to reach Puerto Biello dero Brazato (2566 m) where a long descent down to Ara valley begins.

We leave the Ibons de Batans to our right following the path along a ravine and losing height over stony ground before reaching the valley floor at Mallata Batans (crossing with route 19). Go about 100 m more downstream and cross over the river Ara and a little further down find some markings on the mountainside to the left bank of the river indicating a barely discernible path heading north and leaving the GR and the river. We climb the mountainside diagonally and head towards the top of the valley on the left side.

At around 2360 m there are some markings on the left coming from Coth d'Arratilha and to the right leading to Mulos pass. From here on, in addition to these markings, there are some cairns indicating the route to follow to Oullettas. We head to the right (northeast) and face the climb up to the pass. Several metres before we reach the pass (2522 m) we see a path on the left coming from Arratilha (crossing with route 18). Ignore this path and carry on upwards to Mulos pass (2594 m). The descent is on a steep slope following a zigzagging path to the plain of Eras Oulettas (2148 m). With the refuge in sight we border round the plain and cross the stream over a bridge and arrive at Oulettas de Gaube refuge (2158 m).
